Accounting skill test
Four questions on entries, GST, depreciation, and the trial balance.
What this tool does
Accounting skill test is the multiple-choice check on the Accounting and finance hub. Four questions on entries, GST, depreciation, and the trial balance. There are 4 items. Each item has one keyed option. The page is there so you can rehearse the distinction before an interview, not so the site can rank you against other people. Item 1 asks “A cash sale of goods is recorded as”. The option this quiz marks correct is “Debit cash, credit sales”. Cash comes in, so cash is debited. Sales is credited. The other choices are Debit sales, credit cash; Debit capital, credit cash; Debit purchase, credit sales. Item 2 asks “GST collected on a taxable outward supply is generally”. The option this quiz marks correct is “A liability until it is paid”. Output GST collected for the government sits as a liability until you pay it. The other choices are Income; An asset called drawings; Debited to capital. Item 3 asks “Depreciation on furniture is”. The option this quiz marks correct is “An expense that reduces the asset's book value”. Depreciation is an expense. The asset's carrying amount falls. The other choices are Debited to furniture; Credited to profit and loss as income; Posted only in the cash book. Item 4 asks “A trial balance that agrees proves that”. The option this quiz marks correct is “Debits equal credits in the ledger totals”. Agreement only shows that debit totals equal credit totals. A wrong account can still balance. The other choices are Every entry is correct; GST returns are filed; Stock is valued.
How to use it
Read the prompt, pick one option, and submit the set. You do not need an account to try it. Three correct answers out of four score 75, because the score is correct divided by the number of items, times 100, rounded to the nearest whole number. A wrong pick still leaves the explanation on the item, which is the useful part. The score is not a grade from an employer and it is not sent anywhere by itself. If you want it kept, sign in as a candidate and save the attempt. The quiz does not use a model, so it runs the same way when no AI key is configured.
Worked example
Work the first item on its own before you look at the key. It asks “A cash sale of goods is recorded as”. If you choose “Debit cash, credit sales”, that item is marked correct because Cash comes in, so cash is debited. Sales is credited. Then do the rest without changing an earlier answer to chase a round number. A perfect set scores 100. One miss on a four-item quiz scores 75. Zero correct scores 0. None of those numbers is a percentile. The jobs link on this page searches HiringBuddy for published roles matching “accountant”. An empty list means nothing published matched. It is not a comment on the wider market. A signed-in candidate can save the attempt on their profile. Saving is not an application, and it does not show the attempt to an employer. Employers see people who apply to their own jobs.
Questions
- How many questions are on the Accounting skill test?
- This page has 4 items. The score uses that count as the denominator.
- Does a high score go to an employer?
- No. Saving an attempt stores it on your candidate profile. An employer sees applicants to their own jobs, not this quiz.
- What does the score actually measure?
- It measures how many keyed options you matched. It does not measure speed, and it does not compare you with anyone else.
- Can I retake it?
- Yes. The items stay the same, so a retake checks whether the explanation stuck. It is still practice.
