What this tool does
The unit converter changes one measurement into another unit in the same family. Length uses millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres, with 1 kilometre equal to 1,000 metres and 1 metre equal to 100 centimetres. Mass uses milligrams, grams, and kilograms, with 1 kilogram equal to 1,000 grams. Temperature converts through Celsius: Fahrenheit to Celsius is (F − 32) × 5/9, and Kelvin to Celsius is K − 273.15. The reverse uses those same relations. The result is rounded to two decimal places. The converter does not do pressure, energy, or currency, and it does not know the density of a material, so it will not turn a volume into a mass.
How to use it
Choose length, mass, or temperature. Choose the unit you have and the unit you want. Type the value. A blank or a non-number is refused. Read the result and the unit label together. For temperature, confirm you did not leave the value in the wrong family. A reading of 32 on the Fahrenheit scale is 0 Celsius. A reading of 32 on the Celsius scale is not.
Worked example
2.5 kilometres is 2,500 metres, because the metre factor for a kilometre is 1,000. 500 grams is 0.5 kilograms. 98.6 Fahrenheit is 37 Celsius, because (98.6 − 32) × 5/9 = 37. 0 Celsius is 273.15 Kelvin. Water's freezing point is the 0 Celsius case. The formula quiz on this hub asks that as a separate item. One kilometre is 100,000 centimetres on the same factors. The jobs link on this page searches HiringBuddy for published roles matching “engineer”. An empty list means nothing published matched. It is not a comment on the wider market. A signed-in candidate can save the attempt on their profile. Saving is not an application, and it does not show the attempt to an employer. Employers see people who apply to their own jobs.
Questions
- Does it convert between kg and metres?
- No. Length stays in length and mass stays in mass.
- How is Fahrenheit handled?
- It is converted through Celsius with (F − 32) × 5/9.
- Are results exact?
- They are rounded to two decimal places. A repeating fraction may show .00 or a short decimal.
